highbeam flash sometimes causes washer to activate
« on: August 14, 2008, 10:27:18 »
Yesterday:  I pull on the turn signal shaft OR I push on it -- it activates the washer motor.

Then I do the connection of the taped-off wire as per instructions other places in the forum in order to get the high beams to flash when I pull the switch.

Result:  when I push the shaft, the washer motor activates, when I pull the shaft, the washer motor activates and if I pull a little harder then the headlights flash.

Next:  I take out the turn signal switch and look at it and spray a bunch of contact cleaner inside.  Then it seems to do what I want -- Pull = flash, push = washer.

Next:  I connect it all back up again.

Today:  sometimes when I pull the turn indicator it still activates the washer motor in addition to the flash of the headlight.

I'm thinking more contact cleaner.  Anyone else got any ideas about this?

thanks
Scott

I had a bad ground on my MG once... well... more than once. But this time I could start the car with the turnsignals.
