RHD exhaust pipes
« on: January 07, 2008, 04:12:05 »
Hi All,

Anyone know where I can get the front exhaust pipes for a RHD car?  These are the pipes that connect to the exhaust manifold (part # 1134900220).

I've found an exhaust manifold (thanks Naj) and a supplier for the rest of the exhaust system (from Adsitco) except for these.  SLS do not have them.

Anyone in a RHD country know?

Thanks.

Eryck,

Have you tried Neimoeller in Germany?

I thought MB dealers could get them, they certainly could when I was looking for a new exhaust last year, although I did decide to go stainless in the end. When they quoted it was for the main system with the front pipes seperate. I can't remeber how much the parts were but I think the whole thing was about £700.

Hi Eryck

You can get the RHD pipes from SLS. Have a look at

Thank you all for your help.  I checked out "niemoeller" and they do have it.  Unfortunately they are not cheap.  Only the front pipes are Euro977!  The rest of the exhaust system is reasonable.

I am glad that they have it in stock and even though the front pipes are expensive, I don't really have much options, right?

Help please.

Finally got around to installing the exhaust system but there's a problem. I think Niemoeller sent me a LHD part instead.

Sent them a photo but they told me it's the right one and that early 230's (like mine) are different to late 230's.  Is this correct?

The part is in the picture attached. The manifolds are too.  My mechanic tried it and is sure that the right part should be the one pictured in the diagram attached (labelled RHD) and not the part in the picture (pic).

Is there a difference in the exhuast manifold between early and late 230's?

Hello, Eryck,

Yes, I think you have been sent part #1 which is the down pipe(s) for LHD cars.

On second thoughts, considering the length of the pipes,I think you do have the correct pipes for the early 230SL RHD. Although the cast manifolds sitting in front of the pipe are for a LHD.

Thanks, Naj.  That's what I thought.  Then the supplier said that they are sure and that the exhaust manifolds for 'early' 230's are no longer available, so maybe he is referring to the manifolds as seen in grey in the diagram below, in which case, the pipes he sent would fit...umh...

Naj - you are officially an exhaust manifold expert.  Your picture does look like my old manifold although mine has numberous patches of welding on it and not sure if it's usable anymore.

Assuming not and given that the RHD mani's are no longer available, does anyone know if the later manifolds and pipes would work???

I think my changes are better in finding the later pipes than the older manifolds...

Eryck,
The manifolds you got off me would work fine.
You just need the correct front pipes 4,5 and 6
