Brake pad cross spring

Please have a look at the different ways the brake pad retaining cross springs seat in these 2 photos:





It seems that in the 2nd photo, the spring is functioning to keep the pads off the rotor when the brake is not active. In the 1st photo, the spring is simply securing the pads. Is one of these positions more correct?

Actually the only function of the spring is to prevent the pads from rattling so either is OK. I would be mildly worried that the second spring might trip on the metal part of the pad as the pad wears and get bent.

Hello,

The photos show that this car has the wider vented brakes. The cross springs are not as wide on the standard unvented versions.

The spring pushes the pads back after you release the brakes as well as anti rattle fuctions.
