Having a difficult time finding a replacement automatic antenna for my 1966 230 SL, can I replace my broken "automatic" antenna with a regular non power antenna ?

Yes, you can swap it out for a manual antenna, but you may also want to attempt to repair it first. Here's a writeup from a site I've found useful with some DIY info for a slightly newer Hirschmann antenna:

Do a search for the Hirschman antenna.  They have a replacement power antenna for about $80.
