Learning about my 250 SL
« on: October 01, 2008, 21:43:04 »
Thanks to this forum, I have learned more about my car this past week than I have after owning it for about 25 years.  I just got my copy of the "data card", and it shows my car was initially sent to Italy; I know the canvas top should be "black"; and it came from the factory with the 5-speed tranny and posi differential, etc.

My VIN is 113043-10-003168.  Anyone know how many 250SL's were produced with the 5-speed.

Thanks much........

There are a few of us here (very few) that have "Italian" Pagodas. Of course, we will need to see some photos of your car when you have a few you can share with us.

My car was first sold in Naples and came to the US some years later. It still has the original Kilometer speedometer and Celcius temp gauge.

Italian cars originally had a small round orange disk on each front fender...and the red tire pressure sticker inside the trunk lid was in French.

The stoplights in back used on Italian cars were a little different than the lights used on other cars. Take a look at the Tech Manual for rear lights...you can compare the photo of the Italian style light with yours.

Please take the time to add your car to our Registry of cars.

Someone else will have to give you the answer about the number of 5 speeds but they were quite rare during the entire Pagoda production run.

Sounds like you have a very interesting car. Welcome to the source of all Pagoda knowledge.

Thanks for the information on the differences in Italy destined Pagodas.  Very interesting!!  Like a fool....I had my KM speedometer converted to Miles a good number of years ago.

I believe this forum has justified me buying a digital camera.  I'll get some pictures up as soon as I get a camera and learn how to download them.  Thanks, Richard.

I have an Italian 5 speed car.  I believe there were about 850 Pagodas built with 5 speeds. Total production that includes 113, 112, 111, 108 and maybe 109 was around 1,400 so they're very rare regardless of what car they were used on.

I once saw a 300SE Cab with a 5 speed. One of only 3 made and it's part of the MB collection. I wonder how much THAT one's worth?!

Hi Dan.... thanks for the info on how many Pagoda's were factory equipped with the 5-speed.

I tried (twice) to enter my car into the "car registry" but was not successful.  I'm thinking that I need to become a "Full Member" to enjoy this privilege.  Is that my obstacle, guys?

I've bought a 250sl the past week (vin 11304312002168).
It was sold in Naples in the 67 like another 230 that I have, and other 3 cars that I know.
How many Mercedes w113 were sold in Naples: is it only a casuality...?

I've got a  Napoli 250 as well.  We got it almost 30 yrs ago while living in Naples.  It's a 4 spd however.  Still has all the Euro-ness to it.
Excellent site here btw!
