OK folks, I need some help.  First off I'd like to thank The Lews for the use of his high res and imaculate pics to compare with:)

Here's the deal:
The original owner decided to install an LP system in my '67 250sl.  I've taken out most of the system but there's still some left that I am unsure how to approach. 
Here are some pics to give you an idea of what I'm looking at.

One of the things that is stumping me is the piece between the throttle body and the air filter hose.  Pretty sure that isn't OEM, but the idle adjustment screw is attached to it with a hose leading to the LP regulator (Round disc looking thing).

Also my breather tube is directed down and out underneath the car instead of back to the throttle body.  I am assuming the original owner didn't want the emisions going back through the system so he decided to dump it out the bottom? 

Last of all on the back of the intake manifold there is a nipple outlet (capped on everyone else's cars) where a hose was connected and led to the LP regulator.  Could this lead to its high idle issue (idles at 1500 rpm)?

I'd like to tear the LP stuff out but am hesitant as it runs ok but does idle high.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello,

The unit between the throttle body and the air filter looks non-original.  Although the 250SL did have a unit which looked similar but was manufactured from sheet metal and was supplied with warm engine coolant to prevent ice-up of the throttle body in cold weather.  In later W113 crars the system was built into the throttle body casting itself. 


Your valve cover breather tube should be routed to the taped-off opening on top of your throttle body.

The unit on the rear of the engiine are your LP regulators and it looks like they are also supplied with warm engine coolant to keep the LP from freezing up the regulators in cold weather. It also has the LP hose from the idle control screw hooked to it.

It looks like your injection system is intact. Most likely the electric fuel pump has been disabled causing the fuel injection syspem to be inoperative. Should be an easy fix.  Should need a few original parts if they are not with the car.

Thanks for the response.

Basically I'd like to illiminate the non original part infront of the throttle body, along with the LP regulator, but am not completely sure of the routing of the hoses and idle screw and what not...  I don't even see where the idle control screw would mount to the throtlle body.
I would think this would be a fairly simple endevor but just need a little guidance & pics to go by.

Fortunately the injection system seems to be working fine, along the the fuel pump too, as I can hear it prime when the key is turned.

Just an update,

I tracked down the high idle to a vacuum leak so now it's settled down to about a 950 rpm.  Still slightly high I suppose.

The breather tube is still dumping out the bottom of the car.

And the LP regulator and lines still need to go.

On a positive note I just replaced the much needed shifter bushings and wow what a difference!

Yesterday I spent all day cleaning up the head and tail light assembly and housings, and freshening up the bulbs. 

Good times!
