i know there have been many threads about pagodas in movies, but caught the film Frost/Nixon last night (good movie, though a better play) and toward the end, David Frost drives off in a nice pagoda--my color, too  ;D

Whose Silver Pagoda was that in the final shot of the new Frost/ Nixon film? It was a nice, very prominent shot at the end of the film as the hero (Frost) was riding into the sunset. I think the film may not be released until December, but it is worth seeing.

Happy Thanksgiving, Tom

This Saturday I took some time for myself and went to see the new movie about David Frost played by (Michael Sheen), the English talk show host, who undertakes a two million dollar tryst to try and interview the besieged President Richard Millhouse Nixon brilliantly played by Frank Langella with some very direct questions about Watergate and the Vietnam War.

The story is slow at first and the interview of the former President seems to avoid questions by rambling on to avoid answering Frost questions directly. Frost hires three assistants and a women who Frost invites to meet  President  Nixon and tag along Rebecca Hall who plays Caroline Cushing and three assistants  to help out and research the scandals committed by President Nixon's link to the Watergate Burglar. All well known actors.

It is a worthwhile movie to see if you like history. I, for one, did not know that President Nixon had two other brothers who passed away. Some of the off-the-cuff one liners made by Frank Langgella who play Nixon are hilarious.

David Frost arrives in a  6.9 with his advisers and in the end, without going into the story, ends driving a 280SL Roadster with the top down with  friend played by Rebecca Hall who plays Caroline Cushing.

This is a highly recommended movie of true history and all the actors are great, many well known.

Yesterday I watched the film. It looks like Mercedes-Benz sponsored it... see the picture. I used the old Mac to get a few small shots from the film to give you a taste...

Michael Sheen was on the radio here this week and obviously has done months of research on Frost - having also played the role on stage.

Anyhoo, the "love interest" in the film was taken on a first date to see.... Nixon

Not a bad first date, I guess. Sheen said that in reality, their first date was to the "Rumble in the Jungle"

If I recall, my first date with my wife was at home, I cooked and then fell asleep!

Yeah well, but they met in first class... on a long haul flight from Australia to the West Coast. It worked for him as a pick-up line! When I met my wife, First Class was so far out of my league....

Besides, that "falling asleep" of yours must have been that endearing quality in you that made her want to marry you  ;) Hey James, and I do hope you make it to Blacklick this year... it would be good to share a couple of American brewski's with you!

At least somebody had good judgement---in cars.   Nixon's parents were interested in history(English) and named their sons after English kings.  No wonder they were paranoid.   Shakespearean kingship was a poor job choice- akin to Yugo and Edsel----

If you read this review of the movie, http://tinyurl.com/6r7ba2
you will see the movie has many historical inaccuracies. It is more like an Oliver Stone movie than factual history. The inclusion of the Pagoda is a nice touch, though.
