Distributor Vacuum Hose Connection
« on: March 22, 2012, 22:46:26 »
I needed to replace the distributor vacuum hose because it was old and brittle.  I disconnected the old hose from the distributor.  There was a ball like compression fitting on the old hose. I can see no way of getting that thing back on the new hose. The hole is way too small.  Do I need a new larger fitting for the new hose?  Is there some trick i'm missing?

These ball compressor rings are still available from MB.  Just go to your nearest MB dealer and have parts guy look up part.  They even have the hose too.  Cost is next to nothing.

Thanks. I called MB and they said they don't carry the part.  I insisted they had it because Zoegrlh said so  ;D.  The guy had to research and call me back.  Sure enough, they had it.  $3.  They new one fits the new vac hose perfectly. I'm not sure if the old one was just compressed or a completely different size for new size tubing  ???  I attached the picture. New one on the bottom.

The part number is N003862 004000

Hi,

The compression fitting is N 003862 004000 and is available from MB, as is the vacuum line A 000 158 1435.

The hollow bolt N 003871 004102 is NLA from MB but if you google the #, there are sources, especially in Germany.
You may be able to find a used one, possibly even from the good Benz Dr who fixes these distributors.

Just curious - has anyone tried off-the-shelf compression fittings?  I assume the vacuum line and fittings are metric which would be a bit of a challenge in the US, but I'm sure something is out there.

Naj,
Are there different part numbers for the compression  fittings?  I took the part number off the sealed MB bag it came in. Why is your number off by one digit?

Sorry, I hoard those things. Later distributors have a small pipe that the rubber connector slides over so this part is only used for early units.
