1967 250sl UK car
« on: March 11, 2009, 20:47:15 »
I’ve recently started to restore my father in-laws 1967 250sl.
He purchased the vehicle in 1983 and used it for some time until he parked it up in his garage covered by a sheet and forgot all about it!!
Then I met his wonderful daughter (my now lovely wife) and then discovered this hidden treasure. I pestered him to try and get it running.
The car is in need of a good service and a clean up, I’ve changed the plugs, points, condenser, dizzy cap and HT leads, dropped the fuel, cleaned the fuel filters and put a new battery on and to my amazement it started first time.
After running the car for 5 mins the car started to get hot, I then thought the water pump must have ceased up. I stripped it down and found it running free. On closer inspection it looks like the thermostatic valve is not working so a new one has been put on order.  The work continues…….

Thanks to Naj for the help and any other advice would be gratefully received.

Nice find! Looks like you found the toy right in time for spring... excellent time to enjoy some top-less runs.

Post some more pictures please, as well as some specs on the car.

Welcome to the forum.

congrats

The car looks in good nick! Bet it costs you as much as the wife though! ;D

You'll find plenty of help on here and there's a few parts suppliers around in the UK.
