New Featured Car

Yes, it's that time of year again... I've finally added a new featured car to our site: http://www.sl113.org/sep2009.html

Interesting story, interesting photographs thanks to Geoff Eldridge (known as treedoc here).

Now all of you who promised to put together a similar pack for me before, and have not yet done this, please mail me high-res photographs and a story, and I promise you a similar treatment.

The Pacific Hwy on the west coast  and no douubt he'll do the Pacific HWY run here on our East Coast in the same car!

Rob I will be bringing the car to Sydney In early November, maybe we could get both Blue Pagoda's by the Sea and really show how it's done Downunder.
 A few spec's on the car, built 10/1970, auto, ps, origonal MBUS air con, Becker, colour mid blue metallic 396 [1 respray], light cream MB Tex, hard & soft, heated rear window, 88K miles, all carpets, trunk mat, soft top origonal and as new. The car is a great tribute to previous owners Wayne & Linda Dow.

You got a nice story there.  You should add a few pics of your blue Pagoda by the sea up your way in the meantime. The coastline is a little different in your neck of the woods

Our 280 is now suffering from a split personality, we intended to European-is it, change the US lights and Bumper Bars and fit a pair to fog / driving lights as per Peter van Es's 280
When we looked at the bumper bars they are in perfect condition, no rust pitted chrome etc still have the bone colour paint on inner sides. So it was decided to keep the original bars and mount a pair of new Hella 160's where the overrides had been, problem was the Hella's where then the first point of contact should someone back into us.
As you can see from the attached images we have now moved the lights further out and backwards and reinstalled the overrides for that added protection. We have retained the side lights and modified the wiring so they work also as flashers

I agree... it's better if the lights are spaced out further. It's also a bit less clean with the bumper bars.... oh, decisions, decisions.

Keeping the car safe and dent free can be big issue in many places...

I'm in New York City, headquarters of bump-the-car-behind-you when parking...

But I rarely park in the street and so far have escaped (fingers crossed) any street damage.

My car still has its original Euro look, no bumper guards with vintage Hella fogs. I think the clean look is worth the risk.

The light switch has  a pull out function that will turn on the fog lights.  So now that you in reality you have two pairs of fog lights; one in the European light and one in the auxiliary fog lights how do you control the individual lights?

Standard Euro fog lights in our car are wired stock standard, ie. pull the light switch to activate.
Additional bumper mounted lights are drivers and activated by pulling upward the middle switch on centre console, [previously not wired to any function], we also have a normally open relay powered from the head light high beam circuit so as the driver's drop out when going to low beam
Pull switch on right operates the heated rear window and small lever switch operates the electrical radio aerial

Other than in total darkness Pagodas look good in just about any light level

Individual control and how to activate fog lights may vary from car to car depending on how the lights are wired.

On my Euro version car, the bumper fog lights and the Euro headlight fogs are wired together. When I trun on the fog lights by pulling the headlight switch out, all 4 fog lights are activated. Do not have indivdual fog light control.

The word is actually QLD stands for Queensland, one of the provinces in Australia.
