Removing the "other" chrome strip....
« on: March 24, 2009, 02:47:09 »
Try as I may, I cant figure out how to remove the chrome strip that runs from the rear doorpost all the way to the front in to the foot well on top of the rocker panel. It covers the carpet on the inside and the rubber  trim on the out side. ( I am getting the car ready for the paint shop )

I assumed that it  would have spring clips holding the trim from the inside ( the trim is U-shaped) over a spot welded body seam. I don't want to use to much force, it is soft and easily  deforms.

Any ideas?   ???

As I remember, you have to pry the carpet back out from under the strip, which exposes small screws that go down into the rocker panel.

I found I also had to remove the kick panels in the foot wells.

You got good advice above.  Expect some screws to be a little rusty, so use a good, sharp screwdriver and lots of downward force on them as you remove.  If you look at what that trim strip costs, you'll really be careful with it!

And if you really mess it up I have two fully reconditioned ones that I would part with.  My restoration took so long I forgot that I had already done a set early and did a second set late in the peace.
