Inspection dots. "Dotology"
« on: April 16, 2009, 05:56:59 »
I am busy re-assembling my 1970 280sl rear axle after sandblasting and repainting. I  would like to apply the correct inspection dots but mine were not visible before sandblasting.  Could someone perhaps send me a photo of a 1970 rear axle showing the position and color of the dots or perhaps some leads to find this info? I have searched the threads on this website.

Much obliged, Auret.

Hi Thelews,

I have looked at the photos of your car before. Certainly a thing of beauty! Do you think the dots were the same on a later model 280sl?

Cheers, Auret.

I couldn't say for sure.  You might look at www.motoringinvestments.com for pictures of 280 SL undersides.  I don't think it's a rigid science.

On the motoring investments website there is a blue SL in the Mercedes listing that sold in the neighborhood of 100,000USD.  It is flawless.

Thanks a lot.  I should manage with the photos of Thelews car and the blue one on Motoring Investments Website.

Cheers, Auret.
