Thinking of selling my 68 280SL...
« on: December 10, 2003, 16:47:34 »
I love my little car, and I've done a lot with it and it is as dependable as they come, but I think the time has come to sell it. Bob had seen my car on a few occasions, I think. Its one of the nicer ones out there.
Went on a Sunday drive, and when I came back my legs and back were just aching! I'm 6'5" tall, and I just don't have the legroom to be comfortable for long trips. And, at my age, I'm not quite as flexible as I used to be. [:p] In my Camaro, I had the seat remounted about 5 inches back, almost touching the back seat, and its just fine. As you know, there is no way to do that in the Mercedes!
So, painful as it may be, I think its time to find my car a good home.
If anyone knows somone who is looking for a great little 280 SL, let me know. I don't really want to do the EBay thing, I thought I'd ask here, where the true W113 lovers are!  Pics and decription are in my signature.
Thanks.

Yes Steve's 280SL is a clean will kept car ,if I could sell some of my goods today I could have a matching pair of 280SLs to drive. Hum! now how to explain that to the wife?
Seriously His car is nice and a turn key buy"

Thank you for all your email inquiries. Yes the car is for sale. I will be listing it for $28,000.00 obo. Nothing personal, but I would prefer not to sell it to a dealer, you guys have enough over-priced 280Sls as it is. I would love to see this car go to someone who will actually drive it and enjoy it.
I've seen many of these cars, not even close to the condition of mine, go for much more, but I believe this is a very fair price and reflects the true market value. I would be glad to forward a complete list of options and accessories.
And, as stated previously, the ONLY reason I am selling this car is due to the fact that at 50 years old, and at a little over 6'5", I'm just not comfortable on those long Sunday drives....and I do so love those Sunday drives! I think someone up to about 6'2" would fit perfectly, or someone a little taller, if they are young and flexible!
The car is at my home, in my garage, in Los Angeles near Beverly Hills. If you know of anyone who is SERIOUSLY interested, please let me know. Pictures are in my signature link. Post, email or call with any questions. 310-600-7017.
Thanks, and Happy Holidays!

Well I am 6'2'' and the Pagoda is a perfect fit for me, and I would think one or two inches more would still be OK. Sorry to see you sell the car Steve. Good luck on finding a caring new owner - too bad Europeans in the sixties were not as tall as they are today.
(A little trivia: the Swedes recently overtook the Dutch in average height, so they are now the country with, on average, the tallest people in the world. When I lived in the US, I was usually the tallest person in the average crowd, but here in Holland I am - not).

Well I can tell you these things weren't designed for those who are height challenged, such as myself.....at 5'6" I have to practically kiss the wheel to reach the highbeam switch :D  plus the seat front is a little too high and not having any adjustment, I have to use a cushion to really feel comfortable. I too love those weekend drives and sure, it's not as comfortable as my 300tdt, but at 51 I'm not going to find anything NEAR as cool to my mind, all that American Iron just leaves me cold....

Hey Ricardo,

Consider yourself lucky -- I have to hunch over to kiss my steering wheel ...  ;)
