To be precise, Ed Ebel ran the repair facility of Becker, not their US office. They closed that as part of their merger into the larger conglomerate Harman Becker Automotive Systems, (Harman International) and as you can tell just from the name, repair of old radios didn't fit the business plan any longer...the new operation is now inclusive of such stalwart brands as Becker, Harman-Kardon, Infinity, JBL, Mark Levinson, dbx, and a few others.
They still have, of course, presence in the USA, larger than ever...just not repairing old radios. US headquarters in Stamford, big automotive operations here in Michigan.
Probably a very good thing they encouraged Ed to set up the repair; many other places would have simply shut it all down, squashed any notion of continuation, and we'd be all the worse for it.
