clonking noise on take off?
« on: July 21, 2009, 03:04:59 »
ive had this chronic problem of a  clonking noise in my 230's rear end, it would happen when starting from a stop, accelerating quickly while in 2nd gear, and engaging gear. i replaced the upper differnital mount and it stopped the noise when engaging gears but it still makes the noise while accelerating & starting off. i noticed also i can get it to make the noise if i move the selector from R to 4 or 4 to R, but only after i have moved the car a little (doesnt happen when sitting still and going from 4 to R etc...)
any suggestions?help would be greatly appreciated! my thought was maybe the locating strut bushing, or maybe the bushings in the trailing arms :/

Hello,

Check the rear transmission mount. It may be bad or its spacer may have been left outl  Also make sure the exhaust system is correctly hungl

Also, check the mount #194 in the picture. It consists of a metal-rubber-metal assembly and when the rubber perishes, the whole axle can swing forward and back under load causing a noise.
