After nearly 10 years of sitting forlorn in my shop, unfinished... I'm working on my wife's 280SL again. Started this car after she drove it daily for a long while, and wanted to make it special for her. It was the first car she purchased herself (from the original owner), and it was quite good but getting tired. I began with a complete disassembly, nut & bolt, and hired an Argentine metal craftsman to do all the bodywork which is exquisite. The cowl had typical rust; he fabricated a new one with a wheel, hammer & bag, and torch. Resprayed DB904 blue by a shop known for Pebble-quality work. I rebuilt every mechanical component and went further on the engine, all internals are new. Instead of an interior kit, I bought match-dyed hides and everything is leather, even the visors. Modded hard pockets and fabricated my own door panels. Lotta details, untold hours, but when business started requiring more of my free time it sort of got pushed into a corner. She's been very patient through several Porsches and three BMWs so I hope to have it done by year's end. I missed our 30th anniversary and her birthday is in a coupla weeks...
Turn away now, authenticity hounds; it's a restomod 113. I'll post photos of specific changes but here it is, fresh from cleaning a decade of dust off of it.
