does anyone know where in the seat this part goes?

my late 280sl has a 3 prong part to move the backrest up or down and the only part I find in the EPC is this ?is this the replacement part for the 3 prong adjuster?

Good question. The original part is a one piece design, I believe. You might have to get this piece and the threaded rod, new...

No, the part #34 is a "roller", there are two for each seat.  I think what you are looking for is the shaft #32. On the end of the shaft are three prongs that is made part of the shaft, that when shaft is turned with the tilt knob #35, climbs a cog device that is spring (#45) loaded.  This cog device is attached to  part number 30 ("l" shaped frame).  You need the shaft part.
