Brake fluid leak MC / Booster
« on: March 05, 2012, 09:15:02 »
Hi,

Since a couple of months I experience some brake fluid dropplets  hanging at the bottom of the ATE brake booster of my  230 SL.
It's hard to determine where its leaks. Only a few drops in a couple of months. Usually after a longer period of stand still. Is this normal ?
Brake line  and resevoir connections at the MC are checked and apear free of leaks So I 'm concentrating now on the connection of the MC and the ATE booster.
Could it originate from a leaky O-ring between MC and booster ? And where does the oil coming out of via the small leak hole come from ?
Any suggestions or tips are appreciated.

I had some brake fluid in the same area.  I replaced the master cylinder and this corrected the problem.  It seemed to be coming from the seal at the back of the master cylinder.  I have had no leaks since.

Yes,

Most often the master cylinder has begun to leak. You will also find quite a lot of fluid has ended up in the booster itself. Some fluid eventually escapes and leaks down the booster under the master cylinder.
