Interchangeable wheels

I'm having great trouble finding wheels for my 65´230 SL, does anyone know whether one can use the steel wheels/hubcaps from a W123?

Hello Ulfi,

The standard W123 steel wheels will work fine except that they have no recievers for the small original hub caps used on the 230SL and 250SL. You can order and add  these "recievers"  to the wheels. You can also use the later "one piece" wheel covers instead,  which is not quite original on your car. The aluminum W123 disc wheels are most sought after by W113 owners. They also work fine, save weight but only accept the later "one piece" wheel covers. If recievers are added they will accept all variations of wheel covers or hub caps.

Look for a W108 six cylinder sedan from 1966 through 1970 250S, SE, 280S, SE, SEL (six cylinder engines). They should have original equipment W113 steel wheels which accept both the early small hub caps and the later full wheel covers. The part number is stamped on the wheels #108 400 00 02.

Joe,

I was under the apparently mistaken impression that your post originally stated the receivers were needed for the one piece wheel covers, not the early-style 2-piece.

Yes I see what they are now, but since I own a '69 and it has always had the later style wheel covers, these receivers were not and are not necessary--not on the OEM steel wheels W108 of this vintage nor on the rare and elusive aluminum replacements ex-W123--of which I have both sets.

Hello Michael,

No problem. Your original 69 wheels should be the 108 400 00 02 version which has a stamped "reciever" in the wheel, unlike the two shown previous.  These wheels will accept the full wheel covers and the early hub caps as is with nothing added or attached!

Sorry for going back to an old topic posted by myself, but I've found these rims on a local website:

The link is in Danish, but dimensions etc. should be understandable.
Would these fit my Pagoda so I can get rid of those horrible wire wheels?
And can I fit the late one-piece hubcaps on these or should I just settle for a grit-blast and repaint of the rims?

If the part number in that advert is correct, they would fir, but read the notice for that Alloy rim in the Technical Manual: http://www.sl113.org/wiki/WheelsTires/Alloys
