Where to place floor jack on car?

Are there any photos that show exactly where a floor jack should be placed under the car to raise it up?
Under a mount or under the engine?
Also where is the best location to place the jack stands under each front axel?

Careful here now... you're working with pretty soft metal here, chances are you may end up bending some of it up, so the least the better.

Here's a picture of a car lifted from the underneath, you can see exactly where the jack arms are being placed. Also, using a large piece of wood (a thick one that is) will help spread the weight of the car over a larger surface instead of the small area where the jack excerts pressure.

Thanks, its hard to see exactly where the front one go, but I think inbound of the jack holes. Now if you do get it up, where do you position the front jack stands?

I would put the jack stands where the lower a frames meet up with the body. However, if you can avoid using stands and can lift the car high enough to put the ramps (you mentioned in another thread that you had ramps) underneath the front wheels, you'll reduce the chances of slippage and protect the undernath of your car as well.

Where is the gearshift linkage connected to the transmission, on your second photo?

By the way, that is an excellent restoration, just the way I need to complete my bottom half.

It's hydraulic, you can see the hose.  Technically, the car has never been restored.  However, the previous owner, of 37 years, did refinish components as he did maintenance and repair work on the car.  It was repainted (not the underside) in 1975.  Car has 150K miles on it.

I had a pair of ramps years ago. After several several near accidents I decided they're not safe for the average person to use. They can slide in front of your tire and make the car fall off one side, they can flop over to one side and they can sink into the ground. I say this because the average guy will try and use them on his driveway.
I rarely use jack stands and I'm not all that fond of those things either. They're better than the jack that comes with the car though.

 I'm VERY carefull using blocks of wood on my hoist. Wood can get very slippery and the car will shift very easily if you don't pay attention. A hoist is by far the best method of raising the car for working underneath but I do understand that not everyone has one. I will say this though; life became much better when I got one.  Up to that point it was all jack stands on concrete ( which you better have under them ) and very little room to work. Engine removal using a hoist is soooo much better.

I must admit that I use ramps quite a lot but I only drive the rear on as the front always pushes them away. If I'm working on the front I usually jack the car up via the front subframe then place the ramps under the wheels one forwards and one backwards so it isn't going anywhere.
