1967 250 SL Medium Gray - Garage Pics
« on: November 24, 2009, 20:52:58 »
Hello All,

Snapped a couple pictures of the car a few days back and wanted to share them here. Will be able to drive her for a few more weeks before the really bad and humid weather starts coming down on us, so I might end up snapping a few more late fall shots.

I'm sorry for the low res. pics (used the phone). I promise to get some with a nicer camera soon. Enjoy.

Andres

Nice looking car you have there.  It reminds me of my former Italian 250sl.  The last time I saw her was on ebay and had a color change to met red :'(!  I should have kept that car.

Thanks for posting these photos.

Like the gray/black combination on the 250SL!  Did you change/update the rear tail lights?

You seem to have most of the "trimmings" of the early 250 SL.  Your steering wheel has a matte finish horn ring (also larger) and no chrome around the center pad.  Are your wiper arms chrome or brushed?

Thanks for the comments guys!

As to the questions:
The Steering Wheel is a replacement, the original is a replacement one as the original was cracked, but still the same design (I think)
Wiper arms are brushed, also replacement but I have the originals in a box which are also brushed.
The tail lights were updated by the previous owner, who also did the paint job about 5 years ago. Not sure why he went to that extent, as I have the original italian tail lights and they also look fine to me, just a little discolored that is all.

The garage you can see behind the car was built specifically to keep the SL, a 65 beetle and a Dinan 3 BMW. We are yet to build a driveway up to it all the way from the house... it is a bit hard to choose what to do about it, as a simple straight line seems boring while a twisty road up may be a bit overkill.

Unless it was an Italian thing, I believe the steering wheel would look like mine and the wiper arms are chrome.  I could well be wrong.

It looks like a later version, which makes the steering wheel correct. I have an Italian July 67 250sl looks the same.

I really like the color of your car Andreas.  Is that Grey/Beige metallic?  Or what color is it?

Hello Allen,

The car color is Medium Gray, color code is 178 and paint manufacturer was Herberts.

I see you too have a 250, you should share some pictures with us.

Take care,

I don't remember seeing one on the road like that.
It looks like a very nice car.

Andres,
Here is my 1967 250SL.  It's a Euro car, sold new in Germany. then imported to the US in 1970. Build date is June 28 '67.  It's 717 Papyrus white with medium blue interior. It was owned by the same person here in Portland, Oregon for 35 years.  It is in good shape mechanically, but needs cosmetic restoration.  I am researching different colors, and I like the medium grey, grey/beige metallic, anthracite and DB180 silver.

Shift lever is oriented the wrong way. Should be bent forward not backwards.

Did you put on the rearview mirrors? ;) Yours is a late style 250 (after serial 002979) which came with the rectangular/later style rearview mirrors. Same with the center rearview mirror.

Nevertheless, a beauty.
Love that color

Hello Achim,

Thanks for noticing the shifter on backwards... I did this myself when replacing the plastic bushings on the shifter/gate. I even had a post it note on the dash reading "put the shifter back the right way", but nonetheless I forgot to check and on it went in the wrong direction.

Regarding the rearview mirrors, they were on the car when delivered accoriding to the prior owner, who replaced them with new ones for chrome (I still have both the original ones in a box with plenty of the original chrome that came out of the car when it was repainted in 2000). The car has several features of the 230 and some others of the 280, so it is evident that this 250 was the "transition" model they say it was back in the day.

Regards,
Andres G
