Pagoda in old Comics and Movies.
« on: July 11, 2009, 16:29:50 »
I could not resist to scan two drawings of Jean Graton, out of a Belgium comic-series.
The books are over 40 years old.

Perhaps its interesting to look for more old drawings, paintings, advertisements or
scenes out of old movies, where our Pagoda was the star.

Could somebody show up a scene out of a movie with (I guess) Richard Gere,
involved in an accident, driving a Pagoda?

Thanks for your reply !

Leo

PS: the third image is a promotion out of 1967; my 250SL is the same one but...... ;D

Leo,

nice. I hope you've seen the one adorning our Technical Manual?

I have the entire film Intersection on my hard drive. But the Youtube bit is scary enough!

Peter.........sure, I did notice the drawing from Franquin, wondering in what comic-book it ever
was published. Could you help me out there?  I have another one from Franquin, showing a
VIP on the back-seat of his Chrysler convertible (about 1961), smashed out over the head of
his driver, because a young lady on her scooter did block the road (Robbedoes and Kwabbernoot).

Peter.....I bet you know other movies, where the Pagoda shows up. I ever saw it a few times
in old German movies in the sixties, with stars like Fuchsberger and Curd Jurgens. I just remember
a red one and a white one: the ultimate boys dream, with or without Heidi.... ;D

Kamal.....yes.....about 4000,- with options. But I remember the money I made in 1966: it was
max hfl 450,- a month; and that was just over a hunderd English pounds...... :P

PS: I did collect comics all my life; just stopped a few years ago, sold out most of it but kept
      a few series.

Leo,

I got it from their website... I've tried asking for official permission to use it but never got a reply... so since I tried, and they never replied, and there's a clear link to their (C) and website underneath, I just went ahead and used it!

If you like my way of editing, just send me more Pagoda !

Dont feel frightened afterwards: its just a movie.

More clips (including the ones from LeikeLb) are now here in streaming format (meaning that they start playing immediately), hosted on our own site (meaning that we won't lose them)...

Clip from the film Two for the Road here: http://www.sl113.org/FilmExcerpts.html

Especially interesting film for the wide variety of 60's cars featured in the film. Also interesting (and very noticeable in this clip) is the variety of late 60's early 70's outfits that Ms Hepburn wears. Should you need inspiration for appropriate attire for a car show such as Goodwood or Schloss Dyck classic days, ask your lady to wear an outfit similar to one of the ones out of the clip. Especially note the sunglasses...

Peter,

I have to admit that I am not so interested in the movies or its contents, but just in the moving pictures of the Pagoda.
Thats why I did try to make a kind of new clips in a logical way, that has almost nothing to do with the story itself.

More interesting for me is the way you (or your wizz-kids) did work this out. Do you know the song: "ïf I only had time"?
Now I am lost...haha. I know that I have to find out the way to convert to "streaming".

Thank you Peter......sooner or later I will find a way to offer you "pruimenvla" en "koffie".

PS: for the ones that cant translate it, try to look it up in a dictionary.

Have you looked closer at the RHD 250SL's pic?  :o
The door rearview mirror's base location is interesting. It's further back on the door than usual :o ;D

Hey Achim,

You are absolutely right. I lifted the cover over my car to compare..you have a hawk-eye. Are you a German from Sky-City?   ;D

Weird, this difference. Could this have anything to do with the right-hand steering?

Another topic Achim: I presume that you are German and perhap familiar with names like Peter Alexander and Conny Froebus.
I just know that they made a lot of music-movies, where the Pagoda has a role. I also know that there are some collector DVD's
with all that movies. Cant you get perhaps somewhere a copy of that?

Leo, could you mail me the comic image #2 with the pagoda chased by a red car at uw@reputationcph.com ???
Then I would make a hi-res print and frame it in the kitchen (and I don't care what my wife says - it's pop art!)

Best regards

Hey Ulf,

Realize that this is just a very small drawing: its about 10x10 cm.

I will scan it again at the highest resolution and send it to you.

Have fun.

Hi Leo, I've had it printed in our good printer (work in advertising) in a pretty large size (50x40 cm) and it still looks great!
Now I just need to get it framed and nailed to the wall...
