Seat Bracket Needed!
« on: February 02, 2004, 12:19:27 »
Hello everyone,

I am in the middle of gutting my interior and I am ready to have the carpet kit installed and noticed that my seat bracket is broken. This is the mounting bracket that the driver seat bolts to and is mounted to the inside of the transmission hump. Does any one have a spare one or can I purchase a new one? Any assistance would be helpful.

Thanks,
Christian

I do not have an answer for your seat bracket problem just a couple of carpet related questions.  How does the handle that lifts the convertible top lid come off so I can replace the carpet around it?  Did you also replace the padding under the carpet and if so with what?  What type of glue did you use for the carpet and for the dash pieces if you did the dash?
One thing I learned from taking the seat apart is that before you try to remove the bolt that holds the seat back to its L-bracket; check it see if there is a second nut on the end of this bolt before trying to remove the bolt from the side.  Mine did have a second "locking nut" inside the seat back and while putting a lot of pressure on the bolt I broke it requiring a new one from Pay Paul; SLClassics.  This is a very specially shaped bolt needed for adjusting the pitch of the seat back.

The handle comes off from inside the top compartment with a nut, just remember to put it back on before you close the top compartment. I used weldwood gel contact cement on the carpet. I used Dynamat original from Eastwood www.eastwoodcompany.com on all of the floors, then I put over that a foil backed felt material I purchased at Pet Boys, then the carpet on the floors. You will need a heavy pair of scissors and a small nylon roller used to roll carpet down for tools. The Dynamat really worked good the car is real quite and solid feeling with it. If I remember correctly it took four packages to do the car, about $80.00 worth and well worth it.

Well this is great guys, I ask a question and you take the topic and turn it your way. If you have a question about materials and process why don't you start your own thread?

Thanks,

Sorry Christian. As I said I do not know.  Check with parts suppliers such as Ray Paul of SLClassics (1-800-293-2358) or Joe; Ja17 and Dan; Benz Dr, both seem to have a supply of useful used parts.  Also try K&K MFG they supply reproduction body parts.

Everyone has their own preferred suppliers and will tell you that they are the best.  If you have not arrived at that stage of your parts purchasing yet, I recommend you refer to our "Parts and Service Suppliers" database.

http://www.sl113.org/data/show_table.asp?table_name=usr_parts_and_service_suppliers

Call as many as you have to until you find about 4 that you feel comfortable with.  By comfortable, I mean that they really understand the parts you are describing, can convey some assistance with replacing them, and don't have much trouble getting them to you in a timely manner.  If you can find 4 people like that, then you go for best price or fastest delivery, whichever is more important to you that day.  I hope you find a couple favorite parts suppliers, it really makes things easier.  Good luck!
