Clips needed for window trim.
« on: October 17, 2009, 04:14:07 »
I have changed the Chrome Trim clips on the drivers side window twice, but the trim keeps on falling off EVERY day.
This is the (3 ft. approx) piece of chrome trim that goes on the top of the drivers door between the door and where the glass comes out. I have used several M/B bow-tie shaped metal clips, that press fit onto the top of the door, clips, but they dont want to stay attached to the trim.

It is the same setup as on the passenger side, but there, it is holding.

Any ideas on what to use, or the correct part number to order new ones, for some reason my M/B dealer doesnt show the part number for these.

Do you use 2 different styles of clips, as shownangled?? below??? If so how many of each?
Some posters say that clip one does not work out well, since it is vertical as the trim is angled?

Thanks, I had seen that thread, but still do not understand how many of each type of clip, where they go (as someone said one of the clips goes into the chrome piece itself??), , and exactly how should you clip it in?

Also what are the part numbers for the two parts. Is one of the part numbers the one I listed above?

3 pcs. Clip 2: (p/n 113 728 0135 {left} , 0235 {right

Is there a difference in the clip for left (DRIVERS SIDE) and right (PASSENGER on US CARS) ??

....just finished my restoration and installed new clips I got from the "Benz-Dr' .
To the best of my recollection: left and right clips are the same. Inner and outer clips are different. You have the outer clips installed wrong! As a rule of thumb, the side of the clips with the two little spikes goes on the inside to accommodate the window scrapers, also known as "whiskers".
The side of the inner clips without spikes is holding the top of the door panel  in place.
The side of the outer clips without spikes is holding the chrome trim at the base of the  roll-down window in place.
At the moment I can not recall witch once are the outside and/or inside clips. My advise is to check the markings on the top of the doorpanel and the inside of the chrome trim left by the clips to determine what goes where.
Of hand I would say that the clips in your picture are installed wrong.
After you figured out what clip goes where the chrometrim slips over the clip engaging into the slot on the inside of the chrome trim .. Be carefull, may need some gentle persuasion with a rubber mallet.

Ok I received the clips from Germany, I installed 5 of the "Clip1" onto the felt strip, then installed the felt stril onto the top of the outside door panel. I then installed 3 of the "CLIP2" in-between the other "Clip1"'s .
Then I began to slide the chrome strip onto the clips at an angle. After 45 minutes I gave up. It will not stay on. What may I be doing wrong??

As Naj mentioned in the other post Clip2 should be attached to the chrome piece first (not the chassis rail) and then the chrome with Clips 2 is pressed from above at an angle onto the other clips.
When you say it does not want to stay on are you sure that the little barbs on Clip1 actually grab the chrome?  If not your chrome piece may have a problem. Has someone pried the lip on the chrome out of the proper angle?

Exactly where are the barbed ends of the CLIP1 supposed to engage in the chrome strip? Inside oif the slot of the chromed piece?

This just does not want to clip down.

.....I had another look at the clips, the outside once are the once with two tabs with notches on both ends. There is a small and a bigger tab on that U-shaped clip. But those tabs are offset. If you look at the profile, looking into the upsidedown "U" you will find that one tab is lower than the other. The challenge now is to find out which tab accommodates the "whiskers" and which one is for the chrome strip ?! You may have them installed backwards !? I would assume that the big er tab is for the chrometrim, ergo goes outside.

Yes, the slit on the inside of the chromestrip does slip over the tabs, do you have it the right side up? Check the champfered ends for the proper way.

The inside clips have a notched tab similar to the outside once on one side and a larger smooth one, for the top of the doorpannels, on the other side.

One more thing, I have not seen the two smooth clips that you show in your picture on my car, so why not try it with out them.........

Hope this is of some help, please keep us posted.
