Fuel Injection
« on: December 06, 2009, 20:05:54 »
I have the two BBB books, one dated 1959 and also the later version. However it doesn't have much on the fuel injection pump itself.  Where would I get a manual specifically on injection pumps for my 69 280SL? I'm sure MB must have made them.

What sort of specs are you looking for?

First, you will need the 'R2x' number off the pump plate.

Have a look in the wiki:

I think MB treated the Bosch MFI like a black box and Bosch retained responsibility for maintenance documentation, repairs and calibration.  Is there something specific you are looking for?

To Jeff, yes there is something I want to look at. I want a complete service manual on the whole pump like anything else on any other piece of my equipment. I have service manuals for all aspects my Bobcats and also for my Catapillar equipment that I have owned over the years.  In order to maintain  and repair my equipment I require manuals for all parts of my machinery and a car should be no different than anything else I own. I find it strange that MB doesn't have a breakdown and illustrations as well as a full explanation and instructions on the fuel injection pump included in their BBB.

..  Bosch retained responsibility for maintenance documentation, repairs and calibration.  ..
Still does today and now also provides a service manual for the shade mechanic.
You can buy one through the Bosch eBay shop, just make sure you get the correct one.
There are many more different Bosch IPs than there are Bobcats!   ;D

To Jeff, thank you very much. That will be very helpful, at least it is some thing to work with. I met a fellow here recently that told me he has manuals on MB fuel injection pumps. He drives an older 60's Benz and I see him tinkering with it, seems quite knowledgeable so I must get in touch with him and check the books out. Also Alfred sent me a link and tells me that you can order them from Bosch on E Bay. What a great world that we live in now, so much is available through the Internet that we never had in past years. I could never do the work on my cars that I have done in the recent years with out the resources that are available through this medium.  Will post some pics shortly in Gallery of my cars when I get around to taking some. Built a new shop recently with heated floors and a Pearson two poster lift. Living my dream. Thanks again for all the help and I love this site Peter.
