Replacement of door check roller

A few years ago there was a discussion on how to replace a worn roller in the door catch:

I wanted to revive this because a member of the German Pagodentreff.de site has come up with a nice solution. He is selling the kit on eBay now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280432560916

I got the repair kit from Budz Benz it fitted perfectly.
Good service also.

Correct fit is one thing but correct look is another and for me a nylon lock nut just doesn't cut it.

Hi Eric,
very interesting.  I did not know that Bud's at one time sold a kit that allowed you to swage the pin back into the bracket as in the original, and MB sells only the complete door catch.
To get the old roller out one has to drill the pin out at one end and all the kits that I have seen use a nut on one end to keep the pin in place. Also the pin is fixed in place on the other end by longitudinal ridges since it should not turn (only the plastic roller does).
How did you install yours? Can you post a picture?

Hello Alfred,
The rollers look identical to the ones in the German photograph(they have the serrated roller surface).
The pins are identical also, with a circular top and the longitudinal splines,they are differant at the bottom ,all they have is a smaller diameter extension that is hollow so that you can peen them over (just like the original pins).
Removal was straight forward,drill off the old peened/rivet section,knock out the pin.
Refit the pin through the check strap and roller, knock the pin into the check strap so the splines are located into the strap assy: and peen over the rivet section.
Hope you can follow all that,sorry no photographs i must get a digital camera.
