NO INTEREST IN MY 280SL
« on: October 03, 2007, 17:46:23 »
hmmmmm...
Being relatively new to owning, and now trying to sell one of my babies, I am extremely concerned and confused by the fact that NO ONE is expressing ANY interest! Any comments, suggestions, advice or criticism is appreciated???

Hello John,

Do not mistake "no interest" for "no interest here [this website]" or for no marketability.

I would suggest that most W113's that trade hands do so outside the confines of this forum.

I would try your local Craig's list; Hemmings; various car collector magazines such as Car Collector, The SL Market Newsletter, and even The Star.  You might also contact, depending on your urgency, a consignment through people or places like Alex Dearborn.  Goodness, you could even try--eBay!

To limit yourself (I hope you have not) to this list only is selling yourself short and limiting your market.

I sold my previous 280sl by listing on oursl.com

You might give them a try. There was no cost.

Hey John. I'd agree with Michael. I think the silence is partly due to the fact that probably 98 percent of us here already have a Pagoda -- and that other 2 percent may be browsing from all over the world -- and have not quite taken notice. I am confident there will be some interest -- and I am hopeful that Tweety will find a loving home. Good luck!

The Fall is just plain hard to sell *anything*.

Plus the economy is not promising.

Don't get discouraged, in another month when people are thinking *Christmas* and out spending money I'll bet you will get a quick sale.

Until then try all the excellent ideas posted here.

The (newly ex) boyfriend is trying to sell his Ferrari, and is experiencing the same thing. So you are not alone. It will turn.

Anyone looking for a 1981 400i in a gorgeous red? (Rosso Corsa)
Ah well. I tried. <VBG>

Hi Guys and John,

Considering the currency situation, you might try one of the German forums.  I'm sure someone in Europe would love to have Tweety Bird.  As you've seen from other threads, prices in Europe are very high and the Euro goes from strength to strength and IMHO will continue up (bankers are saying $1.45 by year's end).  The ECB meets today, but the President of ECB has said he will not be tampering with interest rates because of inflation danger, so the Euro continues its rampage.
