shaft length...manual vs. pwr steering
« on: January 01, 2010, 22:38:13 »
Happy New Year!! Lets hope 2010 is better...or at least no worse that 2009!!

I need to add power steering to a 250sl I have and while I have done this mod before, it was years ago. Does anyone know, conclusively, the finished length (after shortening, I think I remember) the steering shaft needs to be to accomodate the p-s box?  It looks as-if,  according to the 1971 tdm, that the lengths should be... p-s 612mm and manual 659mm. Does this sound right?  Danke, kb

Sorry, can't exactly quote the different length ... this is also depending on the question whether you have an early (until 002979) or late (from 002980) 250SL with the newer steering column ... but about 5 cm sounds correct for the shorter (or shortening of) the steering shaft.

Good luck
