Emergency Kit and Tools
« on: February 12, 2004, 23:23:55 »
Other than your factory tool kit, what do you carry in your Pagoda to help with emergencies?  Tools, supplies, or what ever.

I have a kit that came with my Michelin tires (special promotion) that includes:
 - a flash light/work light/warning blinker light
 - a reflector triangle
 - an electric air pump (my cigarette lighter is dead)
 - basic first aid kit
 - basic tools (screw drivers and pliers)
 - more?

I also carry a similar-to-original MB tool kit, some motor oil, power steering fluid, a small blanket, and I can't recall what else.  I guess it's time to inventory and update, but I'll wait to read your replies in hopes of getting all the right stuff in there.

Keeping in mind that I just rebuilt or repaired everything in my driveline last winter. I carry the following.
Points(I have a pertronix ignition but need the peace of mind)
 Cap
 Rotor
 1 plug wire
Spare electric fuel pump( I use later Bosch pumps from an early Saab application and being a dealer mechanic I have a few lying around)

I also usually carry a fairly extensive tool bag but have only had to adjust the timing a time or two due to horrible interstate gasoline.

Two tools that I think are essential:

1. A Cell Phone
2. AAA card (be sure you get the coverage that includes a flatbed & homeward-bound towing).

My basic survival kit (other than my Baretta, which I understand beats Graphic66's Walther PPK) includes:
- extra 5 ltr gasoline container
- extensive toolbox
- fire extinguisher (don't leave home without it)
- mobile phone
- extra set of spark plugs
- set of fan belts
- flash light
- spare tire
- "can-do" attitude

An Italian piece in a German car, sounds like your car may get a serious infection. Organ rejection could occur. Both are actually inadequite if the old girl happens to throw a rod and you have to put her out of her misery.

Where is the best place to mount the fire extinguisher?  Where have others mounted it; in front of the seats on behind them?

Beside many of the mentioned items I carry an umbrella to protect the interior against the sunlight or myself against the rain. A role of toilet paper is very usefull when checking oil. Does no one carry a tow cord? I have one for just in case. I also have a set of copies of my driving lisence, car ID, insurance papers, passport on board.

Bruce - my 280sl has a fire extinguisher mounted on the floor in front of the driver's seat.  Don't know if it is original location, it is a US extinguisher.  Drew

What if your car gets stolen?  They they have your whole identity!!  I would not keep such important things in my car at all times.

This is where I have seen them on classic MB and BMW cars.  They are mounted horizontally, but I don't know if they bolt the bracket to the floor or the vertical surface that supports the front of the seat assembly.
