We are currently brainstorming a project to develop a warehouse property for secure storage of exotic/collector cars on Long Island.  Hopefully the project will allow for multiple tenents w 24 hr a day access/proximity to mass transport and temperature controlled environment.  There would be available detailing and mechanics on site.  Has anyone on the west coast run into this type of offer and would this project be something collectors might have intertest in?

Insurance is tricky, I believe. There's a lot of liability sitting there, what with round-the-clock exposure to the opportunity for rust, theft, vandalism, door dings, etc. Are you talking about the east end of LI?

There is company called "The Last Detail" on the north shore of the Chicago area that does just that as well as sells exotic cars.  They also repair, paint and restore cars.  Check out their web site at www.thelastdetail.com

If it is close enough to manhattan, and significantly cheaper than the regular Manhattan garage, I think this would be an excellent idea. I have seen a couple of those places in Paris. typically, people with more than 2 classics would park several cars there rather than in the country side in a humid garage.
If the location allows it, you could extend the place and have a "cafe", with weekly or monthly gathering...:)

Sounds like a great idea. What areas are you looking at? Might be cheaper out east.

Check out the site, its currently German only but I translated it with alta vista's babelfish. There was an article in the UK Classic Cars mag a few months ago. http://www.meilenwerk.de/

Its a fantastic site. Basically a huge storage area where the cars are stored in dehumidified glass cases, showroom like, and there are bars and cafes and classic car specialists, clubs etc all under the one roof. Folk can wander around and view the cars, and the specialists working on them.

Now THAT would be my dream !!!
