BW over drive

I found this in the new members sticky

"....Of special interest to some, may be my installation of a Borg-Warner overdrive unit that -as I desired- brings the engine rpm at 60 mph and 3350 rpm down to about 2350 rpm! What a joy on the highway!
When I have the time I'll write a report on this unorthodox, but successful installation.

Tom Forsythe"

Im hoping to light a little fire under Tom's feet and maybee get some more information on what the BWOD unit is and how it can be adapted to fit our SL's. I did some net surfing and found out this was an accesory/option on 60 and 70's pickups, Suburbans and the like, and also that it causes the car to freewheel on decelleration. not sure if this is all the time or just in OD.
No pressure Tom, but inquiring minds want to know.

Hi,
I've been looking into different ways of lowering the revs on my 1970 280SL Automatic. 5-speed Getrags or changing the rear diff seems to be the most popular ways to do this. However this post describing the use of a Borg Warner overdrive seems very interesting.
The question is now if anyone has the scanned article in Pagoda World to share with me. I would be forever grateful if I could read about this.

Thanks in advance.

I would like to get the information about the BW overdrive and a comment about this as a solution as opposed to changing the rear axle with a 280SE one.
Thanks for the help.
