suspension bushes

I am hoping to replace the rubber bushes on my 66 230SL,is this a job for the DIY.I think they are all the originals but there  is no knocks or squeaks from the car  but I suppose after 44yrs they need replacing.The engine mounts where done not so long ago, also I think the shocks may be original, whats the best way to tell if they are not performing correctly again there are no knocks or creeks,the car has done a documented 54k.Has anyone ever tried the polybush or nylon type bushes.Any info appreciated.Thanks Mike

If you're going to change the bushes stick with the original material.
poly bushes will ruin the ride quality.

There could be some truth to that.
The only place I've used the poly bushings is on the front sway bar and the trailing arm. Neither of these places would change the ride quality very much but will help to stabilize the car.

Does someone have a source for these or part numbers to order originals or aftermarket pieces? Thanks

autohausaz.com has a lot of the rear axle and some front suspensions rubbers at good prices.
