Crane XR700 Question

I started puttting in a Crane XR700 in my 1965 230SL standard tranny today. It appears I must remove the brass post that the points mount to in the distributor. Is that correct? If not, the Crane slotted disk hits the post.
Perhaps I am trying to use the wrong slotted post.
Where is a good place to attach the ground wire from the ignition module? I mounted the module to the underside of my battery tray.
Any advice is appreciated.

Hi, Joe,
I did this a couple of weeks ago! Great minds think alike?? Mine is under the battery tray as well.
The slotted disk you are trying to fit is probably the one with three metal springs in it?
There is a second six slotted disk of smaller diameter in the pack (Without springs) that I used. It just clears the post by maybe 0.010 inches.
I fitted the ground wire on one of the screws holding the ballast resistor

p.s. I also had to file the edge of the slotted bracket somewhat for the light sensor unit to fit squarely on it.

Well, yesterday was International Women's Day, and I had to desist working on the car and pay attention to the spouse. Today, things are back to normal, so I got back onto the Crane installation. Didn't get too far, sorry to say. While I got the smallest slotted disk to fit, thanks to Naj, I cannot figure out how to locate the pickup unit. Does it go near the brass pole or on the opposite side? Which of the two "L"-shaped supports is used?
Advice is, as always, greatly appreciated.

I used the smaller 'L' bracket.

I noticed you left your condenser in place. That will save time if you have to replace the points unexpectedly.

Yep, Joe,
Theory is if you're prepared for it, it should never happen??

Note in the picture that the slot in the shaft for the rotor is a few degrees from lining up with the mark on the distributor body (@ 5 o'clock) and the slot in the disk (@ 11 o'clock) is similarly, the same few degrees away from the trigger center.
They should both line up at the same time - purrrfect timing
