mysterious engine - head
« on: April 27, 2010, 14:35:04 »
Dear all,
I wanted to ask you something about the workings of my car "Pagoda 280 sl 113 044 12 0093??".
Several months ago we exchanged some mails about some information of my car.  The engine is the number 130 983 12 00059?? and the head that the car has , you told me you thought it belonged to a model 250 SE  ( 129 016 03 01  E 9.5. since it hasn't written the number 250 in embossed number  between the 5 and 6 cylinder.
I'd like you help me because I don't have clear the head number, I think it is 130 016 0001 but I wanted you confirm me it, in case it was.
This matter is a bit important for me because I have the opportunity to buy one but I want to be sure I'm not in a mistake.
On the other hand, I'd appreciate if you could tell me if the valves and the rest of the pieces in a head 250 and in a head 280 are the same.
Thank you very much in advance and best regards

Adivasi,

Both of your numbers, engine and VIN are not complete. Both must have a 6 digit serial number after the -12-; so, the engine serial number could be 00059X or 000059 or so.

In either case your engine does not seem to be something very special but just an early style M130 engine.

The 250 cylinder head "129 016 xx yy" (casted number on the left side just above 3rd or 4th spark plug hole) may theoretically bolt on the M130 short block - I don't know fro sure - but iis definitely not correct for your engine; you must have none that reads 130 016 xx yy.
As there are different types of 280 engines (I am aware of early style and late style and possibly some intermediate changes) it is absolutely mandatory to get the right head. I recommend contacting an expert.
Just call Dr. Benz (Dan Caron, see advisor's list here on the forum) or Joe Alexander.

Best luck
