Ideas on carrying a bicycle with the W113?
« on: May 18, 2010, 20:02:18 »
I would like to inquire if anyone has ever figured out a way to carry a bicycle with our cars? I like to drive to other areas to ride my bicycle and it is hard to pick up babes while driving my old Ford Focus wagon. I'm sure I would be way luckier if I drove up with my bike mounted on my Mercedes. So, any ideas or pictures, getting older it is harder to rely on my looks, it sure helps to have a nice car.

Get a Moulton NS separable and stick it in the trunk;D

If a tow bar can be fitted to the car, surely a towbar mounted rack would work - albeit spoil the looks

Want to attract women...get a Porsche.  Only thing you are going to attract in the sl is old farts like me.
BTW the red one is mine and its like honey in a bee hive!!!! Unfortunately, I am married and faithfull for 30years...and it takes a doubble dose of Viagra to get it going.

abe...you couldn't be further away from the truth. My car is like a ***** magnet. Having a Porsche only attracts the wrong sort. Beating them off with a stick....me.

Abe , I beg to differ . The Pagoda attracts just as much as a porsche ... If you are older and drive a newer porsche, you might get some attraction  , but not as much as driving a clean pagoda . Personally i dont think newer porsches make as bold of a statement as a pagoda driving by .
If you are young and drive an original pagoda ... ( even better - the women you attract span all LEGAL age groups  ( ...Hi Cougars ! LOL ) .a newer Porscha cant even match that attention...

Contact the Chicagoland section of the MBCA.  There's a member there whose only means of transportation are a 300 SL Roadster AND his bicycle.  He has a carrier.  Saw him driving away and that's the story someone there told me.

This will work too :)
Unfortunately I wouldn't want a woman who's attracted to me because of my car.....LOL

Here's a rack that'll work ....

Great response! I at least gave everyone a laugh. As for the unicycle mount, that looks cool but I think I would only get clowned around with and my balance is pretty bad anyways. I always wanted one, but I have trouble standing on one leg, let alone one wheel. I agree about the Porsche, you would attract the wrong type, kind of like a big bag of blow, your gonna get a babe, but only while the bag is full. I also agree about not wanting a woman who only was attracted to my car. But, you gotta have an opening line, and a chance to get one. This often requires bright shiny items, like fishing.
The trunk mount on that Roller or whatever that big British condominium car is was a thought. I have one of those. I am worried about the aluminum trunk getting bent.  A hitch mount is possible, I have seen some original equipment designed ones for our cars in pictures. If anyone knows of one out there that may be a way to mount a carrier.
Thanks for all the responses, keep them coming. I'll figure something out, but for now maybe a bumper sticker on my Focus-"My other car is a Mercedes Convertible" will have to do.

I always loved this photo!  If you can figure out how to carry a Chris Craft on your roof, I'm sure you can master a simple bycycle! 8)

Ok this is weird, my dad had a Chris Craft boat, and a Hudson Terraplane.
