280SL Project - Pictures from body shop

Here is the current state of the 280SL project at the body shop.  The pictures aren't in any particular order, and the most interesting are the ones that show the rust in the tail and the new pieces welded in.  They have spent a fair amount of time on the left fender, which was replaced, and the headlight opening.

This shop does great work but is not a Pagoda expert, so if you see any anything to be concerned about, please comment.  We have been over headlight notches at least six times, and he has the headlight door and a collection of pictures.

Great pics, Chuck. I take it they grafted in new headlight "buckets" and new tail section...? If so, are they for K&K?

The right headlight came with the sometime-long-ago replaced fender.  Left appears to be original.  The inner and outer tail pieces are Mercedes parts.

Maybe a little personal, but if you don't mind me asking, how much? I am so tired of people looking at my car and saying " I know somebody who can paint that car for 6 or seven hundred dollars". I then ask them if their friend could get the speedometer and all the dash apart and the windshield out included in that price? I think most shops would have a hard time with just that part. Better yet get it back together.   Of course they say you just tape that all off . So if you would like to divulge the cost, unless of course your significant other may find out and give you the boot while reading here, I would like to know to shut up the constant banter from the peanut gallery.

Nice work.  It looks like no stone was left unturned.  The doors look nice and straight.  For some reason the doors on many of these cars are just not done well.

Remember that when the car went to the shop, it was dismantled, the old paint had been blasted, and everything primered.

The deal we made was $10K for the basic paint job.  That included prep and paint of the body and the dark grey in the compartments.  We found rust in the rear panels and those were replaced, and I decided to have him clean and paint the front suspension.  So I think the final bill will be around $12K.
