Project 280SL Back from Body Shop
« on: August 02, 2010, 12:23:22 »
The 280SL arrived early Saturday morning, back from Dover, Delaware, and looking good in its original DB 181.  I am very satisfied with Mayhorn and hope my skills will match their work.

Gernold is sending me a package of seals, gaskets, grommets, firewall pad, rebuilt heater core, etc. so I can start installing the wiring harness and getting the engine compartment ready for the engine install.

Having seen the car in person, I must say I am impressed with the paint.  Will be a spectacular car.

Hello Chuck!

DB 181?? That's light beige.
I think your car was originally DB 180 silver-grey metallic because that's what the car looks like now.

180. One of my favourite colors.
Very well done!

Thanks for the good catch, Achim.  It was a senior moment - my fintail is 181.

Looks stunning!  And it looks like you had a nice example to start with based on the myriad of spotwelds!  Curious if you used Glasurit 2-stage paint or a U.S. supplied company?

The right fender was replaced, and some dent work was done on the left, but otherwise original.

The paint is Diamont from BASF - urethane base, plus clear.

BASF had a Gullwing done for them using their paint of course.
