Mechanic/Restorer recomondations in/near Iowa?
« on: June 16, 2010, 16:45:46 »
Hi All,

I have a 1970 280SL in need of above.  Although I haven't come across any 280's in the area, there must be a few.  Any recommendations much appreciated.  I have heard of Black Forest in WI, Pelham Bros in Clinton, IA and Healey Werks in Lawton, IA.  Someone near Des Moines would be ideal, but I'm not too optimistic.

Also, any advice regarding whether or not to have a local (experienced) shop sort out all the mechanics first prior to sending to a restorer, or do everything at one place?

Thanks.

Des Moines is the black hole of the Mercedes universe. When i lived in Iowa (Fort Dodge) I worked at a Chevy dealerships. No one needed a Mercedes tech.

Funny, I live about a mile from Fort Dodge in Johnston.  Small world!

Its been 12 years since we left F.D. Johnston is suburban Des Moines by Sailorville Lake? Fort Dodge is another 60 miles north up the Des Moines River.
