Steering Idler
« on: August 03, 2010, 18:54:19 »
I have a creaking noise coming from my steering system, it appears to be from the passenger side (RHD Car). I think it
is the steering idler bush thing. Is this common, it does not seem to be have any play.
SLS do what looks like a referb kit (246062), is this what i need to cure this. (about 34 Euros).
Is there a Mercedes kit?
Thanks

Hello,

This would be a easy fix and inexpensive place to start.  The kit is fairly easy to install. The center "drag link"  (center tie rod) can also creek and moan when it goes dry. In the old days these  had grease points which could be service to keep things lubricated. In fact the early W113 cars (230SL) has a grease point for its eary style "idler arm".
