Rear Axle Vent Location
« on: March 31, 2004, 23:40:05 »
I just changed the fluid on my 71 280SL and didn't notice where the vent was. Anyone know?

Thanks

It's at the top near the back of the diff housing. Some cars have them on the left ( non moving side) of the axel tube near the diff housing. These things need to be cleaned and able to breath air in or out.

A vent on the differential housing????? Is it there because the air expands as the differential gets hot while driving??? Is there a filter, cause it seems to me you do NOT want to get dirt in there! Could someone post a drawing or a picture???
