UK RHD Tempory Headlamp deflection for European use
«
on:

We are planning to spend some time in Europe in the summer, there must be somewhere good to go
around August time !
Does anyone have any information on available options for tempory
deflection of the headlamp beams during this period please ?
My car is standard UK spec.
Is there a "mark up" available to "tape over" the relevant section the headlamps ?
What have others done in the past please ?
Thanks, and have a great 2013
Paul

Hi Paul,
The lights have a triangular deflector in the glass which is right and centre of the lens, this deflects the light high and left when on dip beam and is the bit you need to blank off when driving on the right, I just use cloth tape which has worked well for me in the past.

Thanks David, I have used this solution before, but was not sure where to blank the lens,
and now your picture makes it clear.
Keep well

Paul,
just in case you decided against a DIY solution, here is a link that offers the item + installation instruction

Thanks Stan,
Interestingly their list indicates they are OK for a 1967 230SL Pagode, but when
I enter a 250SL Pagode, it says not Compatable.
At that price though, curiosity makes me order a set.
Keep Well

I've used Eurolites a couple of times in the past and at least one always falls off within a couple of days so I gave up and just used tape.

Well the Eurolites Adaptors arrived (less than £5) and I contacted them (
www.travelspot.co.uk
) for their
advise with respect to a 1967 Pagoda..
Really excellent ciustomer service, and they sent me the mark ups here by return EMail.
The guy runs a 1964 Subeam Alpine, he rebuilt, and was in Spa last September.
I will keep still the tape with me though, David ..thanks for all the help.
Enlightened
Paul

Interesting thread. The 1st time I drove in Europe I blanked off the part of the lens to prevent glare but now I don't bother. I usually only tour in the summer so night driving is very rare and no authorities have ever stopped me about this. The other thing I would say is you see so many LHD cars over from Europe in the UK and I have NEVER seen one with beam deflectors

My (admittedly, quite chav) solution on my 108: I have one LHD and one RHD european "tombstone" lens mounted at the same time, and I light up BOTH sides of the road at the same time.
Cheers,
Patrick

This is of course a personal decision but my take is if you don't spend two minutes and a bit of tape to make it right you are breaking the law and if you get stopped for anything at all the French police will fine you for it, even during the day, and if you stray into night you will dazzle other drivers which is not very neighbourly.
