Torn rear axle bellows seal

Hi--

I am restoring a 65 230SL that has been neglected.

The rear axle bellows seal is torn, and has been apparently for some time.

If any dirt has gotten into the rear axle because of this faulty seal, what is the best option to ensure that it is flushed out?


After replacing the seal, should I flush out the rear axle through repeated fillings and draings of the lubricant, or what?

Hello,
These units are quite durable howevers, if you are afraid the unit has be contaminated with sand or dirt, I would flush it with grease right after a short drive. Otherwise you may want to change the diff oil after a few thousand miles if you are uncertain that  dirt may have entered the unit.

Sorry Joe, I am  refering  to 90 W gear oil. (often refered to as grease)
