The red one is exactly like the '71 280 SL my mother had for 17 years starting when I started college.

Jamal,

You have a beautiful pair of Pagodas, they both look stunning, given the choice my preference would be the two tone as well.

Enjoy the ride. :)

Thanks for getting back.
I thought that was the color but sometimes computers can be off.  My 1970 is also 542 dark red.  I thought it was tobacco brown at first, older eyes. I find that it reminds me of the dark red used on some of the big Chryslers and Cadillacs of the 1930's.  They would often have contrasting fenders painted black. Very stately combination.

I wonder what it would look like if you put the black hardtop on it.  If you ever do swap the tops just to check it out please take a picture as I would like to see how it contrasts.  I like the two tone paint schemes.

I have only seen two in this color.  I wonder if it was a rare color choice?

Jamal,

Beautiful cars, nice to see them side by side.  What make and size tires do you have on the two.
Thanks

Jamal,   I will dig up a picture in the next day or two and send it to you. I don't have a working digital camera right now so I will try to scan a print.  Ivory with cognac interior and burlwood..

I think it is great looking.  Mercedes often did "three tone" cars with saddle interiors in the 60's.  Is it the original hardtop in the original color?  If so the hubcaps would have originally been painted black to match the hardtop.

Jamal,  thanks for swapping the top and posting the picture.  Looks good.  It sort of gives you three pagodas without taking up more garage space. ;)  You could always take a few moments, swap the hubcaps to black and really confuse the neighbors on how many  pagodas you have in the stable.
