My new 280SL
« on: December 01, 2010, 04:12:46 »
Hello All,
I have been reading and learning on this wonderful site for some time now and have finally taken the plunge to Pagoda ownership!!
I want to thank all of you for steering me in the right direction but special thanks to Dan Caron, John Mancini, Doug Dees and Neil Hoffman for all your help and advice.

So here is what I am the proud owner of:
1971 280SL, automatic, white with dk brown interior, some orig paint, orig interior, numbers matching body panels and engine/trans, orig firewall pad, fender notches, spot welds and built in the last month of SL production.  Overall the car is pretty decent in my opinion.

Things I want to find out about, rectify, need advice with:

Where can I buy books/manuals at a reasonable price as I do not have any?  I will call the Classic center for the data card.
What type/ model of radio and antennae are period correct for the car and where can I buy them?
Missing some tools, again where can I buy?
Clock not working
Would like to get another key cut as I only have one.  Can I just buy a blank and get it cut at the hdwre store or go to a Locksmith or MB dealer?
Carpet has been cut out in the back for some aftermarket speakers.  Can I still buy dk brown carpet for my car and where?

Any advice would be appreciated.  Thank you all in advance for your help and this wonderful resource.

Thanks Guys!

The mileage shows 39,000 miles but is undocumented as there were very few maintenance records that came with the car.  My mechanic thinks they may be original due to the condition but who knows.  The seller wanted the price confidential.

I pick it up today and am pretty excited to start to discover what these cars are all about.  Been reading about them for so long and finally get to start to play with them.  Sadly I will not have much driving time before I put her away under a blankie.

tx again

Welcome, joes. Use the search function on the site, and you'll find answers to all your questions.

Also explore the Technical Manual... that will have lots of them too:

Is this the car you bought Joe?  Looks like a keeper!  Noticed when I was reading ads today and you're from Canada.  Can't go wrong with a car Benz Dr. points you to.
