Engine position in the Pagoda

Hi all, 

I have noted that the front subframe is the same in the W113 as in the W118/109/110/111/112 but the engine arms have different part numbers. Can someone tell me if the engine position in the W113 is more forewards, backwards, higher or lower and by how much, compared to the sedans and coupes of the same era?

 Lower.

The engine mounts are slightly more angulated than the ones of the sedan.
They cannot be interchanged - unless you want to live with dents in the engine hood.
Don't know exactly how much the difference in height is; a bit less than an inch.


The front axle is not absolutely identical to the sedans' axles; the springs are different.

i may not be a "expert" but from first hand experenice they are idential. i have a 230sl and a 220sb and the front subframe is IDENTICAL. i used the same mount kit for both cars. no change in ride height or motor position in the 230sl over original mountr

Hello,

Yes as noted the subframes are the same.  Some bolt on items like the springs (thanks Achim) and the front sway bar are different. The aluminum side supports for the engine block in the sedans hold the engine slightly higher in the automobile than the engine side supports in the W113 cars. I am fairly certain the fore and aft position of both engine configurations are the same. Using sedan engine side supports in a W113 car may work at first, but the first time you hit a bump in the road, the engine will bounce up enough to dent the hood !
