Stock Stereo Speakers
« on: January 27, 2011, 16:55:18 »
My speakers are original to the car and one is blown. Any recommendations on where to get replacements? I don't want to do any cutting or modifications to make the speakers fit.

Contact Ed Ebel of Becker autosound?  Search around the site he has been mentioned before.

If they can't do it, just do a quick search on the internet--there are lots of places that will repair speakers of all kinds.

I believe you can purchase these from Becker Autosound in New Jersey, but I'm not sure that the impedience is the same as original.  I have had a set re-coned but I actually haven't listened to them yet.  The problem with the reconing/replacing is that the speaker is secured to the speaker casing by rivets.  I have duplicated this with small grommets but if you don't have the right ones it is going to be a pain.  It's also not that easy to get the plastic cover off the speaker - it is held in by to dimples on the bottom and two on the top that correspond to small holes in the bottom/top of the plastic cover.  If you mess it up, let me know and I can sell you a replacement speaker cover.   Normally I have speakers on ebay for sale but I'm way behind in my chores....

ps - if Becker Autosound wants an arm and a leg then contact me.

Thanks all. Very helpful. You can tell that I am new at this by my basic questions. I really enjoy this car and don't want to diminish value by doing something out of naivete. I'll circle back.

I just had my radio repair by Autosound in NJ. They are no longer part of Becker but do sell and repair the older Becker radios, they also sell speakers and Hirschmann antennas I dealt with Tom Mitchell. He used to work for Becker and now is part owner of Autosound. They are open Monday to Friday. I am not sure of the times.  The phone number there is 201-773-0977.
