280SL will not start need assistance
« on: February 18, 2011, 19:36:13 »
I have a 1968 280SL. The car has an new battery fro AAA and is in good working order. it is on a battery tender when not in use. A day or so ago I took the car out to drive I stopped twice and it had not problem startin again. the third time It sat for over 10 minutes. When I turned the key the car engine would not crank over andstart. . I thought it may be a ground wire or the battery. I called AAA they said the battery was fine and the ground wires were tight. I had it flat bedded back to my garage. It still puzzles me the engine will not start even cold.

I would appreciate any help or suggestions !

Hello Bob,

A few things to look for........

If you have those after-market bolt-on replacement ends on your battery cables, they can loose connection. Take them apart and clean them up if so. If not check the neutral safety switch on the firewall to make sure it moves up and down when the shifter is moved back and fourth.   More difficult things next, but check these first.
