5 Speed Transmission from a gray market 250CE

Has anyone had any experience with an MB G76/25-5 manual five speed transmission from a 250CE gray market car (114.022)? Will it install into a 1969 280SL (production date March 1969)? On paper it looks possible, but....??

I believe that its a no-go because the linkage is on the side rather than the top.

I go with Chuck here.
Not possible.
That later unit is too bulky and does not fit into the SL's tunnel.
Forget about it.
Get a Getrag G 265 5-speed (with conversion kit) or a T5- box (search for it here on the site for Ray's story; forum's name Raymond)
or a ZF 5-speed or similar but forget the G76/25-5

Also agree with Chuck and Achim,
I have looked closely at the alternatives and they do not fit without doing body modifications. The BMW Getrag G265 5 speed low ratio or T5 conversions are the way to go.
