Gear Shift Manual Transmission
« on: April 30, 2011, 02:17:16 »
Getting things put back together following replacing the shift plate bushings which had disintegrated and was causing a rattle. Gave it a test run tonight. Ran great. Shifting is much tighter which I believe is normal. However, seems gears are out of position... i.e. take a look a the attached pics. 2nd and 4th gears come very close to the ashtray (2-2.5'') when shifting. My hand practically bumps the ashtray. It's been a month and a half since I driven but I don't believe that's the way it was?? All the gears work but again just seems different. Is it my imagination or have I inadvertently reassembled incorrectly? Comments appreciated. Thanks, Rick

Looks like your shifter is 180 degrees reversed. I had the same problem when I had my bushings replaced. It should angle forward.

Flip it? Makes sense. I bet you're right. Son of a gun...

Thanks John.

Yes John is right. The bend in the chrome rod should bend toward the front of the car.  Sorry, as it is a  bit of work to correct.
