DC Craigslist Yields (Fake) NOS Battery
« on: April 05, 2011, 01:05:10 »
Seller had a bunch of stuff, including this battery on Craigslist.  It has never had acid in it and it came complete with what I think is a hydrometer taped to it.

Also NOS tray that goes under the battery, and a top bracket.

Some days you get lucky.

Chuck

I hope you understand that all rubber case batteriesl leak acid. You should only use this as a display witout any acid in the case. otherwise it WILL leak acid all over your newly repaited fender well and battery case.

I knew it might be too good to be true.  It is actually plastic, and a reproduction, and not correct for the car.  At least according to Gernold who said that the exposed cell connectors were maybe used on the earliest 230s.  I also found the folllowing supplier, who makes this style in a variety of sizes and "brands."

There is a flat spot on the side of the case that would be visible, so  what I am considering is to put a yellow/red Bosch decal on it and see if how many people I can fool.  So don't spill the beans!

Hi Taylor

The original battery would have had a ribbed casing design and was made by Varta.
